Here's an interesting domain

http://www.walmartfinancialonline.com/ As you can see, it automatically forwards to westerncapitalfinancial.com, a domain registered by Western Capital CEO Robert Paisola.

I know how protective Wal-mart is of their name. And, rightly so. Considering they are the largest corporation in the world, someone will always be trying to tap the value of their brand as a resource.

Walmart owns literally hundreds of domains that contain various mis-spellings and variations of their highly valued trademark. Many were purchased outright as the internet grew, others were obtained through litigation against parties who sought to profit by pirating their trademark. A quick search of Pacer will reveal such court cases.

In addition to protecting it's trademark name, Wal-Mart strives to maintain a squeaky clean image. It's hard to imagine their growing financial services are somehow connected to a felon convicted for the possession of child pornography. But, maybe I'm wrong.

I suppose that's a question I should pose to Wal-Mart's general counsel Thomas Mars.
